When a wedding ceremony begins with a Jim Halpert quote (from the hilarious television sitcom, The Office) one might not expect an overabundance of tears to follow. To deliver the finest wedding photos, it is paramount to be emotionally invested and possess an authentic relationship with one's clients. That was not difficult in the least for me on Saturday when I photographed the wedding day of Bonnie Seaback and Jeff Higgins, as they are dear friends of mine. What was difficult was choking back my own tears as I captured the candid, and emotional moments of Higgins seeing his daughter walk down the aisle, his eldest son walk down with the “here comes mommy” sign, the love of his life, Bonnie enter and attempt to repress her own emotions as she pushed through her vows, and the moment after the ceremony when Higgins saw his mother who overpowered her own hardships to be there for her beloved family.
There were more laughs than tears, however. Laughs shared during our family and bridal portraits, laughs filling the hall as the best man and maid of honor speeches were delivered, laughs over the ridiculousness when Higgins was belly down on the grass with Bonnie in her ballerina wedding gown straddling him for their formal wedding portraits.
As I was about to wrap up the photography session of the evening, I caught wind of a sweet story. Bonnie and Higgins' three-year-old son, Grayson had gone through a process reminiscent of “Say Yes To The Dress” leading up to the wedding. He desired his own dress alike his mama's. The final 15 minutes of my photography was spent capturing a sweet moment between Grayson and his elder sister, Layla as he slipped into his own princess gown, complete with shimmering golden stars. We captured his “bridal” portraits, his reveal to the room and some irreplaceable moments spent between him and his mother as they embraced the joy of the day and liberated their flowy dresses with shared twirls.
